How to lock accounting periods so past numbers can’t change

Web Updated Aug 2026

Once you have closed and reported a month, nobody should be able to quietly change it — a backdated edit can silently rewrite figures you already filed. RushFlow’s period lock closes a period so transactions dated within it can no longer be created or edited, across sales, purchases, payroll, journals and more. Your reported numbers stay reported.

What the lock protects

The lock is enforced consistently, not just on one screen — it guards the many paths that could otherwise write into a closed period:

  • Sales and returns
  • Purchases and supplier bills
  • Payroll runs
  • Manual journals and adjustments
  • Loan, expense and other dated postings
This is what makes your closed months trustworthy — the figures cannot drift after you have relied on them.

How to use it

After you finish and report a period, lock it. New activity posts to open periods only; the closed period is read-only. Unlock deliberately if a correction is genuinely needed, then re-lock.

Frequently asked questions

Can someone edit a month I already closed?

Not once it is locked. RushFlow’s period lock blocks creating or editing transactions dated in a closed period across sales, purchases, payroll and journals.

Can I still make a correction if needed?

Yes, deliberately — unlock the period, make the correction, and re-lock. The point is that changes to closed periods are intentional, not silent.
