How to reconcile a bank account
Your books and your bank should tell the same story. RushFlow’s Bank Reconciliation lets you import a bank statement and match its lines to the entries in your books — automatically by amount and date, or by hand — so you can see what’s cleared, what’s outstanding, and confirm the account is reconciled.
Step by step
- Open Bank ReconciliationWeb: Accounting → Bank Reconciliation. Pick the bank/cash account and an optional “as of” date.
- Import the statementPaste your statement lines, one per line, as date, amount, description (a negative amount is money out).
- Auto-matchUse Auto-match to pair statement lines with unmatched book entries by equal amount within a date window (configurable, default a few days).
- Match the rest by handClick a statement line, then the matching book entry, to match manually; unmatch if you get one wrong.
- Confirm reconciledThe summary shows GL balance, statement total, cleared and difference — the account reads Reconciled when the difference is nil and nothing is left unmatched on either side.
Matching records a link — it doesn’t change your books
Reconciliation is a checking tool: matching a statement line to a book entry records that they correspond; it does not post a journal or alter your ledger. That keeps your books authoritative while you confirm the bank agrees.
