Selling at plain prices — "everything $30"
Some shops sell a whole shelf at one amount — every scarf $30, every tray $5. A plain price lets a cashier ring that up by tapping the amount instead of hunting for the exact item, while your stock records still know which real products left the building.
A shelf is a membership, never a merge
Flagging products as a plain price does not combine them into one product. Each stays a separate item with its own code, its own cost and its own stock. The shelf is simply the list of products that happen to sell at that amount.
- Every product keeps its own cost, so margin stays real
- Stock is still counted per product
- Removing a product from the shelf leaves it otherwise untouched
What the till does when the amount is tapped
The cashier taps the amount and types a quantity. The till then allocates those units across the products on that shelf, taking from the fullest pile first.
How to put a product on a shelf
Two routes, both enforcing the same rules:
- On the product itself — Products → edit → Options → "Sell at a plain price"
- In bulk — Settings → Plain prices
Why shelf items disappear from your online store
A plain-price product is hidden from the online store automatically, and restored when it leaves the shelf. Online there is no cashier deciding which item a tap takes, so a shopper choosing "the $30 one" has no way to say which of them they mean.
What cannot go on a shelf
The switch is refused, with the reason shown, for:
- Variable products — the variations have different identities
- Services and combos — there is no single stocked item to take from
- Serial or IMEI-tracked items — each unit is individually identified
- Anything with no price set yet
Frequently asked questions
Does this merge my products into one?
No. Each product keeps its own code, cost and stock. The shelf is a membership list, not a merge.
Will my per-item stock counts stay exact?
The total is always exact. Per-item counts can drift, because the till allocates from the fullest pile rather than knowing which one the customer picked up. Scan the item instead of tapping the amount when exactness matters.
Why can I not switch it on for this product?
Variable products, services, combos, serial-tracked items and products with no price are refused. The reason is shown underneath the switch.
Why has my product vanished from the online store?
Plain-price products are hidden from the online store on purpose, because online nobody is choosing which item the amount refers to. Take it off the shelf and it comes back.
