How to exchange an item at the POS

Web Android Sunmi Updated Aug 2026

An exchange is a return plus a new sale — the customer brings one item back and takes another. RushFlow handles both sides so stock restocks the returned item, issues the new one, and any price difference is settled.

Step by step

  1. Return the original itemProcess a return against the original sale so the returned item goes back into stock — see returns & refunds.
  2. Ring up the replacementAdd the new item to a sale as normal.
  3. Settle the differenceIf the new item costs more, take the difference; if less, refund it or issue store credit. Complete — stock and accounts are correct on both sides.

Where to find it

POS app / web: use the return flow, then a new sale. On some setups an exchange can be done in one combined step.

Doing the return against the original sale keeps cost and tax accurate on the item coming back.
