How to fix a stock count that looks wrong

Web Android Updated Aug 2026

If a stock figure doesn’t match the shelf, check the usual causes — the wrong branch, stock in transit, or un-synced POS sales — then correct any genuine difference with a stocktake so it’s recorded properly.

Step by step

  1. Check the branchStock is per branch — make sure you’re looking at the right outlet/warehouse.
  2. Check in-transit and pending salesStock sent on a transfer sits “in transit” until received, and a POS device with un-synced sales hasn’t reduced stock yet. See transfers and pending sync.
  3. Correct with a stocktakeFor a real difference (shrinkage, miscount), do a stocktake so the correction is recorded with a variance rather than silently overwritten.

Frequently asked questions

Why doesn’t my stock count match the shelf?

Usually you’re viewing the wrong branch, stock is in transit, or a POS device has un-synced sales. Check those, then correct any genuine difference with a stocktake.
