How to track consignment stock (in and out)
Consignment — selling goods you don’t own, or placing yours with someone who does the selling — trips up most systems. RushFlow’s Consignments track it both directions: goods you’ve placed with an agent (out) and goods you hold on behalf of a supplier (in). Record what sold, then settle the value.
Step by step
- Create a consignmentWeb: Consignments → New. Choose the type — Out (your goods, an agent sells) or In (a consignor’s goods you sell) — the partner, and the line items with quantity sent and unit price.
- Record activityAs items move, record quantity sold and quantity returned per line (sold + returned can’t exceed sent).
- SettleWhen you settle, RushFlow values the sold quantity and posts the settlement — a receivable/revenue for an out consignment, or a cost/payable to the consignor for an in consignment.
Note on stock
Consignment settlement records the value that sold; it does not automatically relieve your owned inventory. If the consigned goods were your own stock, relieve that stock separately so your margin is stated correctly.
