How to play video, images or YouTube on the customer display
When no sale is in progress, the customer display can play a looping video from the device, a promo image, or a YouTube clip — turning the screen into free in-store signage for offers and new arrivals. The moment the cashier starts a sale, the order takes over; when the sale ends, the media resumes.
Step by step
- Open customer-display settingsOn the POS home screen tap Customer display, and make sure the display is turned on.
- Choose the media sourceUnder What plays when idle, choose one: Nothing (a branded welcome), YouTube video, Video from this device, or Image / poster.
- Point it at your contentFor YouTube, paste the video link or ID. For a device video or an image, tap Choose and pick the file — the app keeps access to it so it survives a restart.
- Set audio and idle behaviourTurn Mute audio on for a shop floor (recommended), and Play while idle to loop it between customers. Choose whether the media pauses while you ring items or stays on beside the order (see split screen).
- Preview and testUse the Idle / During a sale preview toggles to check both states, then Test on screen to see it on the real display.
Which source should I use?
Pick based on what you have:
- Video from this device — best quality and reliability; loops offline with no data use. Ideal for a brand or product reel.
- YouTube — easiest to update; plays muted and looped. Needs a working connection.
- Image / poster — a single promo or price list; lightweight and always crisp.
Frequently asked questions
Can my POS customer display play a promo video?
Yes. In the customer-display settings choose “Video from this device” or “YouTube video” as the idle media. It loops between sales and pauses (or stays beside the order) while you ring up a customer.
Can I show a YouTube video on the customer screen?
Yes. Paste a YouTube link or video ID in the customer-display settings; it plays muted and looped as in-store signage when no sale is in progress.
Does the video need internet?
A video stored on the device loops with no internet. A YouTube video needs a connection. For a fully offline promo screen, use a device video or an image.
